PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Mr. Amiel Diaz

Farmind Philippines

It has been more than nineteen years since Farmind Philippines opened its offices in the Philippines in April 2005. Farmind Philippines was established primarily to support the development of software applications for the fresh produce market in Japan and, eventually, other Asian countries more cost-efficiently by combining the expertise of highly skilled technology teams in the Philippines and Japan. The foundation for this was provided by an impressive set of software applications deployed for Dole Japan, namely FANS, a wholesale sales, distribution, and inventory management system developed and operated by Farmind Corporation on a pay-per-use model known today as Software as a Service (SaaS).

Immediately upon its establishment, Farmind Philippines started developing eON, a one-stop Internet-based service for supermarket buyers and store managers. Farmind Philippines worked with Farmind Corporation on the early-stage development of the N-system, which supports the intermediary traders who comprise a large and vital segment of the Japanese produce market, as well as on various services oriented toward consumers, both as customers and as sources of end-user feedback.

These three original systems formed the core of Farmind Corporation’s eMarketplace, which enables producers (including growers), wholesalers, distributors, and retailers to conduct secure, efficient online transactions with each other on the World Wide Web. Farmind Philippines was soon tasked to lead activities that have consolidated the infrastructure, systems, processes, and human resources available to Farmind Corporation, in both Japan and the Philippines. Farmind Philippines has streamlined and upgraded Farmind Corporation’s network, servers, and systems as well as the software development infrastructure shared across the Group companies, effecting significant synergies and cost savings. Today, Farmind Philippines is updating and elaborating on these services in collaboration with our software development counterparts at Farmind Corporation. We have simultaneously initiated an exciting new phase of development we call the “Fresh Exchange” project. Fresh Exchange is aimed at enhancing the security and flexibility of Farmind Corporation’s online systems by moving them to a cloud-computing environment named “Fresh Cloud”. It will also open up incalculable possibilities for providing or supporting the development of similar systems in other Asian countries.

Besides leading Farmind Corporation’s globalization efforts, Farmind Philippines is beginning to engage in IT system development for partners in the Philippines. We hope and expect to pursue more ventures at home and in neighboring countries in the future. We look forward to exploring new opportunities with you as we go forward.
